Strictly Come Dancing's new married professionals defend controversial fat suit routine


The two new Strictly Come Dancing professionals who were
slammed for dancing in fat suits have defended their routine.
Video emerged of married couple Neil and Katya Jones competing in
the Professional Latin World Showdance Championship wearing the
"insensitive" outfits which stirred up controversy.
The couple immediately came under fire, however a spokesperson
for the pair told The Sun: "Neil and Katya’s show-dance was never
intended to offend – it was a performance for which they won
second place in the Professional Latin World Show-dance
Championship."



It was only last month that the couple Katya and Neil were unveiled
as two of the six new professionals joining the award-winning showThe clip from 2014 showed the pair mocking overweight dancers by
performing the dance labelled the "fat ChaCha" wearing the suits that
falsely made them look morbidly obese.
Neil and Katya placed second at the time for their routine, but their
discriminatory routine has come under fire from hundreds of people
part of the dance community and fans of the show.
One person said: "Your fat suit routine is a disgrace to the dance
community. Dance should be positive and inclusive and your
shameful routine is in extremely poor taste."
