A look at $5 billion Apple Spaceship Head quarters where the new Iphone X and Iphone 8 are being Launched
The cream of the world's tech media gathered at Apple's brand new HQ in California this week, to witness the launch of the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X.
It’s the first time we’ve seen the inside of Apple Park, the company's new $5 billion campus - aptly named 'The Spaceship'.
The building's official address is 1 Apple Park Way and replaces the company's original headquarters located at 1 Infinite Loop. The new Apple Park campus is located one mile East of the old HQ.
Named after the company's late founder, the Steve Jobs Theater, where the announcements were made, seats around 1,000 people - about five times the size of Apple's previous home-base, “Town Hall”.
Earlier reports estimated that each one of the leather seats in the theatre cost $14,000 (£10,500).
Usually Apple has to hire out larger theatres and conference centres for its major product launches - but not any more.
A lot of people were as excited to see what the new campus in Cupertino, California, which opened in April of this year, looked like as they were to see the new iPhones.
Apple Park was a project started by founder Steve Jobs back in 2006 when he acquired the new land specially for the facility.
He presented his plans for Apple Park in 2011 - and worked on it for two years before he passed away.
The campus — referred to as "The Ring" because of its circular shape by Apple employees — was designed by British architect Norman Foster.
Sir Jony Ive, known for designing many of Apple's most famous products, is reported to have designed some elements of the new building.
Jobs first announced the construction of a second campus in 2006 and wanted it to be more like a nature refuge than an office. Some 80% of the overall campus area is said to be green space.
The lush inner courtyard features numerous fruit trees as well as a pond.
There are unique design details throughout the building - including a four-story glass door and custom door handles.
Apple Park sits on 175 acres of land and the building itself takes up 2.8 million square feet of space.
The firm boasts it is powered by 100% renewable energy, including 17 megawatts of rooftop solar power, making it one of the largest on-site solar energy installations in the world.
It is also the site of the world’s largest naturally ventilated building, projected to require no heating or air conditioning for nine months of the year.
The four-storey circular building will house more than 12,000 employees and was first opened in April 2017, though construction carried on in the following months.
The Mirror’s Tech Editor Sophie Curtis was at the Steve Jobs Theatre on Tuesday, attending the iPhone X launch event. Reporters and guests were given event passes - featuring a very fetching blue Apple logo.
They entered through a 20-foot-tall glass cylinder above the auditorium. The building also features two custom-built rotating elevators to ferry people to the auditorium and back again.
The Steve Jobs Theater has been built on higher ground so that it overlooks the rest of Apple Park. It also includes a hidden product demonstration room, where the new iPhones were available to try our following the unveiling.
In attendance at the event was comedian Stephen Fry, well known for his love of tech, especially Apple products. Disney CEO Bob Iger was also at the theatre.
